Region
ToskanaThe Cerretalto is a masterpiece of the interplay of terroir and the craftsmanship of the winemaker.
What makes the wine unique are its graphite notes, perfect balance and incredible length.
The nose is incredibly complex, full, and explosive. Graphite is immediately followed by cherry and licorice, along with other red fruits. Then it becomes balsamic and has a hint of menthol.
This vintage was more or less rated 100 points across the board, as the 2016 vintage was a more or less perfect year in Montalcino.
The wine matures for approximately 30 months in oak barrels and then another 30 months in bottles before being released.
Unusually for Europe, the vineyard is predominantly composed of reddish soil containing plintite. Such soil is normally found in tropical regions. Here, it was formed over 4 million years ago and now produces excellent wine. Dominated by high iron content, the soil here also contains high levels of aluminum, silicate, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium.
